::: Apologies :::

Apologies for the lack of pictures around here nowadays but it seems Blogger only let you upload a certain amount and I have gone over that limit so you will just have to make do with my words for a while I'm afraid.

Frosty mornings are here along with the darker nights, the Christmas tree is up and hot chocolate is being consumed to keep us warm.

What are you up to on these Winter nights?

::: 28 Days :::

Only 28 days to go until Christmas morning.

Today I wrapped presents, wrote cards and even put the tree up and decorated it.

Are you feeling festive?

::: Stuffed :::

We've been eating lots and lots of cupcakes these past few days.

Living off them in fact.

Stuffed to the gunnels.

Have you ever felt your gunnels before? :)

::: Cupcakes :::

I had a fantastic weekend learning how to decorate cupcakes with my good friend, Fiona.

And they taste great too!

::: Soup Weather :::

It's cold outside but thankfully warm indoors.

Nothing better than making yummy soup to heat everyone up after a long day at work.

Yum!

Happy Halloween!

::: Tis the Season :::

It's still October I hear you say?

Well, in our house over the past few weeks we've bought and wrapped everyone's presents and delivered most of them to their homes where they lay waiting to be placed under a tree in a few more weeks.

There is only 8 more weekends before Christmas to do all of your shopping, it doesn't sound long when you put it like that I can tell you.

Happy Christmas Shopping Season!

::: New Chooks :::

Meet Saffron,

And Sage!

They arrived today and so far are holding their own against Sorrel and Spice. They are a little shy and muddy but they will soon settle down and make friends with the other two I hope.

::: Floppy Ear :::

Charlie Brown has always had one floppy ear and one pointy ear, when he trots along in front of me I can see the left one flapping about whilst the other stays rigid.

How odd.

::: My Water-Loving Pup :::

It's 100% Autumn now and Charlie has great fun catching the leaves as they fall to the Earth but what's (apparently) even better than the leaves is the streams and streams of water coming down this mountain we live on.

He's a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to all four paws going into the water and having to swim but he loves watching the water go by taking the fallen leaves with it.

And occasionally he will try to grab some of the leaves and twigs with as many paws on the solid ground as possible.

::: Apple & Cinnamon Cupcakes :::

I don't know why I had never tried apple and cinnamon together in a cupcake before but oh my, it's the best thing ever! The house smelt like Christmas and they don't take long to make at all.

I thought they deserved some special decoration so I made them look like little apples. What do you think?

::: Ellie :::

This walking, barking, munching, pee-ing fluff ball is Ellie.

No, she is not ours but belongs to a friend. She is ten weeks old and the softest puppy I have ever felt with big pink paws and doggy-breath.

She is an Old English Sheepdog (Dulux Dog to some of you) and will grow quite big but for now she is a small ball of fun.

::: Morning :::

The farmyard has woken me up by barking, crowing and mewing. All the pesky, noisy feather and fluff balls have been fed and tended to and I'm sitting in the dark on a cold Sunday morning listening to Steve press 'snooze' every five minutes on his alarm clock.

It feels officially like Autumn today. The loch is still, the leaves are brown and effortlessly falling to the earth, the birds are chirping and the sun is slowly rising from behind the mountains.

I can hear one of the rabbits drinking from it's water bottle, the ping of my email as I confirm details of cupcakes for someone's wedding and cars driving by faintly in the distance.

It's not long until Christmas, and for once I can't wait!

::: Cows :::

It's a cold, dark and eerie day down at the barn in the rain today.

::: 2012 Update :::

Well, it's Autumn and so much has been happening lately and not everything is happening in a good way.

We lost Cinnamon last week to some sort of bird of prey. I'm personally blaming the Osprey but Steve has been hearing owls hooting while out at night with the dog. Spice and Sorrel are somehow fine although Sorrel hasn't laid any eggs since it happened. We have two new chickens arriving soon to keep her company so fingers crossed we get some more eggs from her before the winter sets in.

Charlie Brown turned one year old (one already!) and is getting his winter coat coming through. He is as mad and barky as ever.

The rabbits and Lucky are all fine. There are some new cows in the barn which need introducing and perhaps a duck on her way to our little farm family too.

The first frost arrived this morning making everything look crisp and fresh. The ground is crunchy and deer are edging closer to the house everyday, much to Charlie's annoyance. The leaves are turning brown and starting to fall, again, keeping my pup amused.

I love this time of year!

::: Chilled Out Bunny :::

Henrick has got to be my most chilled out bunny.

The two girls will sit and let you stroke them and cut their claws but Henrick is relaxed on a whole another level. He's such a baby and loves the attention.

::: Birthday :::

I had a great birthday visiting Fort Augustus Rare Breed Animal Park. Fort Augustus is a little village at the mouth of Loch Ness where we watched little boats going through the canal.

There are lots of pygmy goats which are just the cutest little things ever! Also home to deer, pigs, different breeds of birds, ponies, highland cows, many different sheep and probably lots more that I am forgetting.

Steve got a little scared by this amazing cockerel called Charlie.

And I got to play with a couple of donkeys which were so friendly I wanted to take them home, actually I would've taken most of the animals home if Steve would've let me!

::: Rowan Berries :::

There are a few Rowan trees in the woods behind our house.

And we've never tasted Rowan berried before so we went and picked some.

Plopped them in a tub and threw them in the freezer until we decided what to do with them.

We'll keep you posted.

::: A Walk In The Woods :::

Another peaceful morning walking through the woods with Charlie Brown, nobody else here and no noise of passing cars, just lots of birds. All these little white parts in the grass in the photo above are spider webs, Charlie was itching to run through it but there was no way I was going to let him as I'd be the one who would have to take any spiders off him, no chance!

Came across a little mushroom a little further into the woods, had to jump a ditch and clamber up a soggy rock to get a photo of this little thing.

And I found the biggest worm in the world, (okay, maybe not the world...) about the same size as my foot!

Fingers crossed x

Oh these are good and so fun to make.
They are sort of like brownies topped with cheesecake then frosting.

Yum!

::: Nest :::

Any ideas to which kind of bird would make this kind of nest on the side of the house?

We are going to leave it be for the next few months but keep an eye on it and remove it once it's empty.

::: Double Yolker :::

I got a shock when I opened the chicken coop the other day and found a gigantic egg! Okay, so it's not an ostrich egg or anything but for my little Cinnamon this was a great achievement. I wanted to bake with it right there and then, and to my surprise, it had two yolks! Well done Cinnamon!

She is back to laying smaller eggs right now and I have no problem with that as the weather is getting wetter and darker and she's only been laying for a couple of weeks.

We're still waiting for Sorrel to lay us a little blue egg when she feels ready. Sage will be arriving soon to settle in with my little chicken family too.

::: Doorstop :::

We got this fantastic doorstop from Steve's parents for our anniversary. She sits proudly in the kitchen, propping the door open :)

::: Cinnamon's Eggs :::

Cinnamon is still supplying us with eggs nearly daily. They are still quite small but she is doing well. Sorrel hasn't started laying yet, we don't think it'll be too long though as they are roughly the same age, she is the new chick on the block though so it may take her a bit of time to settle in to the new routine. We're hoping to get our fluffy Silkie girl Sage soon too.
