::: Family Movie Night - Despicable Me :::

Despicable me is the best film, ever!

Even Steve enjoyed it and he's not really into disney/pixar/cartoons unless you count Up which is another fantastic film.

Quirky animals and strange looking characters make this film so easy to love.

It will make you laugh and make you sad. Another truly great film.

And the best line about a unicorn – (to be said gruffly) It's so fluffy!

::: Eggless Sponge :::

On Monday night I was feeling the need to bake, again!

We didn't have much resources due to the high number of cakes and puddings I'd been making recently but I found a recipe for an eggless cake.

And it is the most scrumptious cake, ever!

I've honestly never made a sponge so fluffy before. It leaves you wanting more.

65g melted butter
2 tablespoons vanilla essence
300g sieved self-raising flour
300ml boiling water
125g caster sugar

Bake for 50 minutes at 160* C

::: A Little Bit Of Gardening :::

After what feels like an eternity of clearing the garden (and it's still not finished) I decided at long last that something (anything!) had to get planted.

With us digging up so many huge weeds and clumps of grass the garden is just one giant mud bath. It feels like we are going backwards and making no progress at all.

So along came this little flower when we visited the garden centre to buy me some new gloves, with no holes, and a rake – to make clearing the garden that little bit easier and take the strain off the fork which we've been using as a rake for weeks on end.

::: Bookmark :::

I made this bookmark for Valentine's day for Steve last year? The year before?

I wasn't sure if I'd blogged about it before so I'm showing you it now.

It's a simple little thing, just two pieces of material with some embroidery thread for the details. I'm thinkiing of opening it back up and putting some cardboard in between as it's a little bendy.

This has Steve's initials and two hearts.

I'm thinking about making more, what do you think?

::: Wardrobe :::

I decided the other day that I had too many clothes. I opened my wardrobe and this is what I found:

So the clearing out began. Many items have been added to my craft box to be cut up and made into something new, others have been listed for sale on Ebay so earn some pennies while some were just downright done and went straight to the bin.

I feel so much better:

Steve's wardrobe next!

::: Progressive Pioneer :::

You all know I read and love the blog Progressive Pioneer, right?

Well, Amy and Clay made a gorgeous Valentine's card to send out to their friends and family. It was a mock up cupid etc of their own two children, Sam and Vivian.

And I put my name in to receive one ~ thinking I live thousands of miles away and I'll never get one ~ but look what arrived in the post:

Thank you so much to the Thompson family!

::: Recycled Jeans :::

I have numerous pairs of jeans but inevitably only wear two or three pairs.

I decided to recycle an old pair that were extremely faded and worn, by making them into shorts.

I know what you're thinking, Shorts? In Scotland? But with a nice pair of tights underneath and some fluffy boots, they are plenty cosy for our cold days.

And I've kept the 'legs' to make into something else.

::: Valentine's Gifts :::

Oh what a wonderful Valentines Day!

Although Steve had to work quite late and when he came home we had dinner, watched a movie and fell asleep.

It was so peaceful and relaxing.

Just what was needed.

I  got a new Orchid and a wheelbarrow! Romantic or what?

::: The Garden :::

Over the past week or so we have been trying to clear the garden. With no luck. It seems as soon as we get near it the weather decides to turn (to snow!) or we have more important things to be getting on with.

We are lucky enough to have a garden that hasn't been touched in years, but on the other hand it's a lot more hard work.

Vegetable patches and a flat lawns are being discussed at the moment, as well as the bird house and buying a shed.

We will get there in the end, let's just hope it stays sunny and dry, then we can hopefully enjoy a Scottish summer in the garden.

::: Sponge Cake :::

I made this (yummy) sponge cake last week with the simplest of methods.

3 eggs
100g caster sugar
100g self raising flour

Mix together and bake for 20 mins or until spongy.

I also made butter icing for the topping, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

115g icing sugar
25g butter
A splash of milk
A drop of Vanilla essence

It's the best sponge, even if I do say so myself.

::: Baby Bunny Update :::

They are very fast and are learning (although somewhat awkwardly) to do binkies whilst flying through the air.

They are now eating hay and vegetables just like the adults do and only feeding from Layla at night.

heir claws are quite sharp and their teeth are quite strong. I get constantly licked and snuggled into.

It is only a matter of time (5 weeks!) before they head off to new homes. I will miss them terribly as they have been such an experience in more ways than one.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. All courtesy of my husband, Steve.

:: Keep Cosy :::

(Photo courtesy of Steve)

We're having a cold filled day with lots of black ice on the roads and even more snow on the way.

I'm snuggled up on the sofa with a blanket and a cup of tea to keep me warm. The bunnies have been given extra bedding and the cat is getting fluffier by the day.

Stay cosy, wrap up warm and have a lazy day!

::: Patchwork Picture :::

A while ago I made this simple blue and white patchwork picture.

It was made from scraps of material I had left over from other things.

It's amazing what you can do with leftover scraps!

::: A Cat and a Giraffe :::

Remember my sheep and highland cow?

A friend of mine really loved them and wanted me to make a couple for her daughter's nursery.

A cat and a giraffe – voila!

::: H & S :::

I decided I wanted them painted so I used an undercoat (two coats) and then I will paint them a lovely colour.

I'll post a finished update later on in the week.
